How to start a Wikipedia card collection
You do not need a complete checklist before your first pack. Start with a few discoveries, keep the ones you receive and let one interesting subject give your collection a direction.

Choose what you want to do with the cards
Wikipedia card games share an idea: real encyclopedia subjects become cards you can collect. The activity after opening a pack differs. Some games focus on battles or quiz questions; others give more space to browsing, collecting and reading.
Ask what would make you want to come back tomorrow. A competitive deck, an animal collection and a reading habit are different goals. Our comparison of Wikipedia card games is a starting point for understanding those differences.
Cardmigo focuses on collecting selected real-world subjects and exploring the English encyclopedia text behind them. Start there if discovery and reading are the parts that interest you.
Try one pack before organising anything
On the Cardmigo homepage, you can preview a five-card welcome pack without creating an account or downloading an app. Open it and look through the subjects before deciding to keep them.
You might recognise every subject, or find a name you have never seen. Either is a useful beginning. A familiar subject gives you a way into the reading; an unfamiliar one gives you a question.
The pack is random within the current selected pool. The animal and space pages are ways to explore themes, not a way to guarantee the contents of this welcome pack. You are not drawing from every article on Wikipedia.
Keep your actual pack
After the reveal, choose the action to keep the cards and sign in with Google or an email code. A verified account is needed to add the reserved pack to your collection. Previewing and keeping are separate steps.
The welcome-pack guide explains the current conditions: one welcome gift per account, with a necessary browser cookie linking the preview for seven days. Clearing that cookie can break the link, so keep the pack before leaving it for later.
Further pack availability follows your balance and the in-app rules. The welcome preview is not a promise of unlimited free packs. If keeping the pack does not complete, check your collection and any visible error before assuming the cards were saved.
Pick a small theme you can explain
A first theme can be as simple as “animals whose names I did not know” or “space missions I want to understand.” You do not have to collect everything that shares a rarity label.
Browse the catalogue by topic, inspect cards and use the collection’s filters and favourites to find your discoveries again. You can also start with the editorial selections for unusual animals and space.
Those lists can help you decide what interests you. They are not a guarantee that a named card will appear in your next pack. A personal collecting goal can guide your attention without becoming a deadline to acquire every subject.
Read past the rarity border
A rare label can be exciting, but it is not a measure of how much you will enjoy a subject. A common card may introduce the most interesting story in your collection.
If you compare games, read their classification and pack rules separately. A subject’s tier, a copy’s finish and the chance of opening it can be different things. The rarity and drop-rate guide explains the distinction with a hypothetical example.
Keep the financial expectations simple: Cardmigo cards are in-app collectibles. A rarity label is not a promise of cash value or an investment return.
Finish your first session with one story
Choose one card and read its encyclopedia passage. Ask one concrete question: what is unusual about this animal, why was this invention useful, or what did this mission set out to discover?
Follow the source if you want more context. When reading in English, you can look up an unfamiliar word or translate a passage. After signing in, manually save vocabulary you want to revisit; these tools are described in the reading guide.
A useful first session ends with something specific: cards kept in your collection, a subject you want to follow and perhaps a question to explore next time. That gives your next visit a reason beyond opening another pack.
